I was meant to go for a filling, but because I’m terrified of the dentist, I avoided it. It started to hurt on saturday and I don want the dentist to pull it out as it only has a hole in it, I tried to use a temporary filling, however, forgot I had an old filling in the tooth above it and the are reacting together, what will the dentist do to my teeth?

Hi there,

I’m sorry you are experiencing pain. You will need to visit your dentist to see if the tooth can be saved. It may be possible to do a filling or take the nerve out the middle of the tooth (root canal treatment), or if you have waited too long, the tooth may be unrestorable and require extraction. The sooner you go the better the chances of saving the tooth are.

Regards,

Dr Claire Titton
