I have a very painful infected abcess on my lower left wisdom tooth. I have been advised that the tooth should be extracted. However, the roots are very close to the main nerve running through my jaw and there is a risk that this may be damaged during extraction leading to temporary/permanent numbness.

What are the statistics for this damage occuring during extraction? Are there any treatment options available to minimise this risk?

Hi Reynard

What area are you based in?

You will need to discuss this with your dentist by telephone or e-mail

However:

We are an exclusice private dental clinic and have all the facilities on site
Our cost is £199 for a CBCT scan but not aware what is available on the NHS
+ consultation of £ 120.00

The above fees may not be appropriate for you, but you have to decide whether you would
like to treated by private/ NHS dentist

Perhaps you may want to contact the other advisors on the http://www.thisdentitry.co.uk site
as some of them may be near to where you are. AS most of the advisors have such facilities
at their clinics

Hope this is helpful
