Everything You Want to Know about Dental Implants. Dental Implant Information for those with Missing Teeth and Denture Wearers
Dental Implants: Missing Teeth Solutions
The problem of missing teeth is something that should be addressed in the soonest possible time to avoid further dental problems and/or complications. Dental implants provide ideal solutions for missing teeth, and can significantly improve the quality of life of a person who has previously gone with a few or all teeth missing.

Those who have missing teeth may find it very difficult to go about their daily lives, as they may feel extremely embarrassed with the way they look without teeth. The embarrassment is made even more difficult with the discomfort that a person experiences while doing even the most basic of activities, such as chewing, biting, or eating.
Dentures can address the issue of missing teeth problems; however, dental implants provide much better results when it comes to replacing the form and function of teeth. Denture wearers may experience denture problems, especially since dentures have a tendency to loosen with the passage of time. Loose dentures can become uncomfortable and embarrassing to wear, while dental implants provide firm anchors to prosthetic teeth restorations.
There is no need to endure the discomfort and embarrassment of missing teeth for a long period of time. There is no better time than NOW to muster enough courage to find a dentist who will be able to help you with your missing teeth problems. Seeing a dentist about your missing teeth issues will help you determine which dental implant systems or options will be the best for your specific needs and goals.
A visit to the dentist will also help you get the necessary information about dental implant costs – and you may be surprised to know that many dentists offer free consultations as well. Do not hesitate to ask your dentist about different payment options, so you can find the best way to finance the dental implants you need and deserve – without having to worry too much about the costs involved.

What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are used to replace the form and function (in combination with artificial teeth replacements/teeth restorations) of missing teeth. The dental implants are placed/embedded directly into the patient’s jaw bone, and will serve as firm anchors where the teeth restorations (such as dental crowns or dental bridges) will be attached to.
Dental implants provide much better missing teeth solutions compared to dentures, since the implants are firmly anchored directly to the jaw bone; this eliminates the possibility of the teeth restorations moving unnecessarily inside the mouth, which may result to discomfort and pain for the patient. Dental implants also prevent the missing teeth problem of bone deterioration – which will not be addressed with the use of dentures as missing teeth replacements.
There is a wide variety of dental implant types, with the difference corresponding to their size, shape, the way they are placed/attached, or their position against the patient’s jaw bone. A consultation with your dental implant dentist can give you the information you need about the best dental implant type that is suitable for your needs and goals, so you can get the missing teeth solutions that you want to achieve.
Advantages of Dental Implants
Improved Appearance – Missing teeth can greatly affect a person’s appearance: the areas around the mouth can appear sunken, and can make a person look a lot older than he/she actually is; missing teeth can also alter the symmetry of a person’s face and make it unattractive. The attractiveness of a person’s smile is greatly diminished with missing teeth – regardless of how many teeth are missing. Dental implants can restore the brightness (and completeness) of a person’s smile, and can also “fill out” the hollowed/sunken parts around the mouth caused by the loss of teeth.
Teeth Saving – The use of dental implants do not require the alteration of the quality of neighbouring (healthy and natural) teeth; this is in comparison to the use of dental bridges, wherein the teeth adjacent to the gap (caused by missing teeth) may need to be altered in shape to provide a better fit. A dental implant can successfully be put in place without dental procedures done on the neighbouring teeth, leaving them untouched.
Bone Deterioration Prevention – Missing teeth that are left untreated can lead to the gradual deterioration of the bone mass in the affected area; this is the reason why missing teeth should be addressed in the soonest possible time, before bone deterioration is given a chance to set in. Dental implants help prevent bone deterioration by acting as the replacement of a natural tooth’s root.
Improved Speech– When teeth are missing, it is difficult for a person to speak in a clear way – enunciating words will be a very challenging task without teeth to help with the speech process. Dental implants provide solutions to lost teeth, so a person can speak clearly again – just the way he/she did before the missing teeth problems came. Not everyone can have dental implants; a patient needs to be in good health, and has to have sufficient bone mass in the jaw area to provide support for the dental implants to be embedded.
Dental Implant Procedure
A dental implant commonly involves a titanium screw and a crown (prosthetic tooth). After numbing the area with an anesthesia, your dentist will drill a small hole into the area of your jaw where a tooth is missing; great skill is needed to ensure that no damage to the jaw bone and the nerves in the area is done while drilling the hole. The titanium screw is then placed securely into the hole, after which gum tissue will be used to cover the screw to hasten the healing process and bone integration. After a specified length of time, the screw will then be uncovered, so the crown can be attached to it – resulting to a brand new tooth that is just as good as the natural (but missing) one.
All on 4 Dental Implants (Also known as All on Four Implants)
All on 4 is a technique used to place dental implants into a patient’s jaw bone, without the need for complicated procedures (such as a bone graft). All on 4 dental implants are missing teeth solutions to restore a full upper or lower arch of teeth; the entire All on Four dental implants procedure (including the dental implants placement, and the fitting of teeth replacements/restorations) can be completed in a single dental appointment.
The All on 4 dental implants technique uses four dental implants, which are placed in such a way that two of the implants placed at the back portion of the mouth will maximise the existing bone mass in that area. This particular positioning of the four dental implants for the All on 4 implants technique makes it possible for teeth restorations/teeth replacements to immediately be fitted (after the placement of the dental implants); the All on Four technique includes a dental bridge that is firmly supported by the four dental implants providing the patient with a brand-new smile, after just one dental appointment.
All on Four dental implants provide patients with the missing teeth solutions they need, without the need to wait for a long period of time (spanning a few months) for the implants to heal (before the teeth replacements can then be attached). The All on 4 technique also allows patients to enjoy the benefits of a dental bridge (supported by the four dental implants) as missing teeth solutions, without having to undergo invasive dental procedures.
All on 6 Dental Implants
All on 6 dental implants use basically the same concept and method of placement as All on 4 dental implants – with the obvious difference being the addition of two more implants used in the All on 6 technique. The All on six dental implants technique also takes full advantage of the existing jaw bone material of the patient, without the need for an invasive bone grafting procedure.
Dental implants placed using the All on 6 technique also provides the patient with missing teeth solutions that can be enjoyed immediately, after just one dental appointment; this is because the All on 6 dental implants, as well as the teeth restorations/teeth replacements, can be attached and fitted within the same day – without the need to wait for a few months in between the two separate dental implant placement phases. The immediate placement of All on Six dental implants can likewise give immediate freedom from missing teeth problems to a patient, who will not have to go through months of waiting for the implants to be fully integrated into the jaw bone, before teeth replacements can be attached.
Same Day Dental Implants
Same day dental implants are implants – including the corresponding prosthetic teeth restorations/teeth replacements -which can be loaded or placed within a single dental appointment. Also called Same Day Teeth or Same Day Smile, Same day implants give patients the missing teeth solutions they need, without having to worry about waiting for a few months for the implants to heal – before the prosthetic teeth restorations can be attached.
The method of placing Same Day dental implants does not require invasive dental procedures (such as a bone grafting procedure)- the patient then is spared from a longer healing time (and the high costs) that are associated with invasive procedures. Same Day dental implants give individuals the freedom to enjoy their brand new smiles in just one dental appointment – without the long wait that can last for a few months, and without having to undergo invasive procedures.
Mini Implants (Also known as Mini Dental Implant)
As the name suggests, mini implants (or mini dental implants) are much smaller in diameter when compared to traditional dental implants. Mini dental implants are often used to address problems that result from dentures that have become loose- bringing pain, embarrassment, and discomfort to the wearer. Mini implants are used to stabilise loose dentures so they are prevented from moving around inside the wearer’s mouth.
Dentures that have become loose can cause embarrassment and a great deal of discomfort for the wearer. Mini dental implants are used to provide firm support where the dentures can be attached to, so they will not have the tendency to move around uncontrollably inside the denture-wearer’s mouth. The mini dental implants will hold the dentures firmly in place, so the wearer can go on doing normal tasks (such as eating, chewing, speaking, or smiling) without having to worry about the pain and embarrassment of loose dentures.
The smaller diameter or size of mini dental implants make them ideal for cases when traditional dental implants are almost impossible to place; some of these cases include those when there is no sufficient jaw bone mass in the affected area, or when the jaw bone ridge is too narrow to support the placement of traditional dental implants.
The mini implants are placed using a minimally-invasive procedure, and can be successfully placed within a single dental appointment. There is no need for a bone grafting procedure when mini implants are to be placed; there is also no need for the gums to be cut open (and stitched closed afterwards) due to the small size of these implants, so the patient will not have to experience too much discomfort – and will not have to undergo a long healing period after the dental implants have been placed.
