The research was conducted involving 31 individuals who are obese or are overweight, and are currently suffering from gum disease. Half of the total number of participants or volunteers underwent gastric bypass surgery to reduce the number of fat cells in their body. The group of participants who underwent the surgical procedure and decreased the number of fat cells in their body turned out to have better chances in fighting gum disease problems, compared to the other half of the research group who still had excessive weight – and have more fat cells in their bodies.
