Cosmetic Dentistry Gum Contouring
Date: August 12, 2011 Richard Jones

A great smile consists not only of how bright and straight the teeth appear – it is also affected by how the gums look like. Gum contouring is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that can be done to improve the appearance of the gums, so overall the smiles will look a lot better as well.

Cosmetic gum surgery or gum contouring is usually done to correct the appearance of a “gummy smile”, which is a condition wherein a significant part of the gums are exposed whenever a person smiles – making the teeth look relatively small and the smile a “gummy” one. Also called mucogingival surgery, a gum contouring procedure can also address issues concerning: uneven gum lines, collapsed “lost” gums due to missing teeth, and spaces between teeth and dental implants, dental crowns or dental bridges.

There are a number of ways with which cosmetic dentistry can improve the appearance of your smile, and the overall form and function of your teeth. Gum contouring may be the answer to your gum appearance concerns, and may just give you smile you have always wanted.
